PROPOSED NEW FREEZERS.
CONFERENCE AT RAETTHI.

RAETIHI, Saturday.
A large meeting of fanners was held at Raetihi on Friday afternoon to discuss the proposal to erect freezing works in the district. Air. T. A. Harris was elected chairman. Mr. Gordon (chairman of the Taihape freezing works) and Mr.-Fan-ning (director of the same company) were among those present. The conveners, of the meeting supplied information regarding the cost of erecting works and the running of same. Mr. Gordon advised those present not to erect works of their own, but to put in extra money to the Taihape concern and make one big company. Several farmers thought the time was not opportune to establish works, while others were ready and willing to give financial and other support immediately. Mr. D. D. McLean agreed with Mr. Gordon as to giving the Taihape works further assistance, and moved the following resolution: "That this meeting is of opinion that the time for erecting freezing works is not yet opportune, and that the farmers of the district give additional support to the Taihape works." This was seconded by Mr. W. Pirie. The following amendment was proposed by Mr. K. C. Guthrie and seconded by by H. Harris: "That a committee be appointed to go into the matter, and that* it is the opinion of this meeting that the time is opportune for erecting works in this district, providing sufficient capital and stock are subscribed to justify the erection." The amendment was carried by a large majority and the following committee was elected: Messrs. T. A. Harris (chairman), D. D. McLean, C. B. Solly, H. Harris, A. Harris, P. C. Murray, J. Punch, H. Cummings, W. G. Short, R.v Auburn, H. Wright, T. Brown, E. R. Beckett, A. W. Ash-well, E. A. Stoelkerling, H. Madden, T. Epps, H. H. Angus, W. E. Waldegrave, and K. C. Guthrie.
At a subsequent meeting it was resolved: "That a scheme for the erection of works costing £70,000 be aimed at." It was also resolved: "That £50,000 be -subscribed before any work of erection is commenced, and that no subscriber will be committed to any responsibility until the £50,000 is subscribed."
At the meeting of the committee there were only nine present, and promises of 10,000 sheep and £3,775 were made.
