-■'* THE SAPETT ZONES. | A meeting of tbe General' Committee of the Auckland., Automobile Association' was held on Wednesday. 'Lengthy communication was received from the N.Z. Automobile Union regarding the attltnde of the South island Motpr Associations. Letters were also received from the Canterbury and Otago Associations dealing with the same matter. A resolution was passed that notice of motion be given for the next annual meeting of the N.Z. Automobile i Union, that the functions of the anion be modified to deal with political matter, only. . A report was received from Helensvuie that a branch of the association had been formed there, and arrangements were made for the president and secretary to attend a .meeting of the branch .at an early date. During the railway strike the secretary of tbe association wired to Rt. Mon. "W. F. Massey suggesting that labour should be engaged to drain the water holes and 'level the surface of the Ranglrlri .Hills, so aa to facilitate transport by road, and reply was received from the Minister of 'Public Works that at the Prime Minister's request instructions had been given to the Engineer In-Chief to have the work carried ont It was decided to write to the Hon J g" Coates and ask that the matter be cone on with. »»-<- ---it was decided to hold a petrol consumption contest at an early date, and. a «_£ committee was set up to make arrangeWlth regard'W the safety tones In the city, complaint was made that pedestrians did not keep In the -one, and frequency the passage between the footpath and gone was blocked by standing carts. It was decided to ask the council to arrange for a' traffic officer In uniform to be In* attendance at some of the busiest spots for a few weeks, to educate the people into the proper use of the xones.
