NEW FIRE SYSTEM.

TO MAKE. DOTJBLY SURE. DEMONSTRATION TO LOCAL BODIES. The inner area of Auckland city is now almost completely equipped fire alarm system that is a great improvement upon any previously operated here, and this fact was demonstrated at' the City Fire Station yesterday before representatives of "the various local bodies and institutions. Mr. G. Porter, the inventor of this new Duplex system, and who has been in Auckland superintending the Installation for practically three months, gave a brief though very interesting explanation of the advantages of his system, and concluded by giving a demonstration of the installation at work.

Previously only two practical fire alarm systems have been need in.modern times, and each of them is a "one chance"- system, because" any fault will put it <out of order. This Duplex is a "two chance," because it combines the two and -also introduces advantages peculiar to neither, and actual experience'has proved it to be almost three times as efficient as the best of other systems. A great advantage is that it records all calls in duplicate upon two separate recording instruments, and broken' lines, ' short circuits, or both together are instantly detected;

All these points and many more were demonstrated to the men and ladies who gathered - at- the fire station. Superintendent W. L. Wilson, of the brigade, also spoke in praise of the system, and Mr. J. J. Kingston, chairman of the Fire Board, said it held such great advantages and represented so much progress in speedy and accurate fire indication that he hoped to see the system' soon extended over a greater area of the city. At present all. the inner area of 93 call-points is covered by the new installation, which has been proved very satisfactory during a period of seven years in Dunedin city, and has been in New Plymouth three years, while St. Hilda. Woolaton, and Levin are all alive to its usefulness.
