COAL FOR CITY SERVICES.

CAUSES OF DELAY. In spite of the fact that 500 tons of coal were supplied by the Government to keep the city services going, delay occurs on account of it requiring to be broken for use" at either the tram or city electrical stations. Therefore, it will be all the council can do to keep the services going, especially as the Waikato miners were off yesterday, owing to it being May Day. * T-tiia necessarily delays the arrival , of coal from the Waikato. Anothej unfortunate circumstance at this juncture is that influenza has temporarily depleted the ranks of coalminers at Huntly, which, of course, means a lessened output. All these causes contribute to make it touch and go as to whether trams, eleetnc power and light can be kept going without a break. It requires about 200 tons of coal per day to keep the city services going.
