A NEW THEATRE.
QUEEN STREET SITE PURCHASED. A lease for 50 years has been granted by the trustees of the Fountain of Friendship Friendly Society to Messrs. J. and N. Tait, theatrical managers, of the property fronting Queen Street, at present occupied by Messrs. Falkner, Wright, Dalton, and the Canton silk shop. This property runs right through 'to Lome Street, where the Oddfellows' Hall was located some years ago. The frontage to Lome Street is 120 feet. The proposal of Tait Brothers is to erect a new theatre with stage accommodation suited to all classes of entertainments. Tlie present leases hav e still about 12 months to run. The shape of the land is such that a wide and attractive entrance can be provided for a theatre on the Queen Street frontage. In addition it is proposed to build several shops and a number.of offices. The lease provides for £25,000 to be expended in buildings, but it is understood the scheme in contemplation will involve V coisiderably more cost, for the block of '| buildings is tn be several stories in ;| height with 6uites of rooms for professional people. ij "
