REPATRIATION BOARD.

The Auckland District Repatriation Board met yesterday. Mr. A. \V. Gillies, chairman, presiding. Forty-seven, applications for loans to purchase businesses were considered, and oi these ■twenty-four were granted or recommended, the remaining number being either held over for further investigation, withdrawn, or not recommended. Twenty-eight applications for loans to purchase furniture were ako considered, and of these twenty-six were granted, one was withdrawn, and one dec-lined.

The employment officer's report for the week showed that there were .sixty-four on the register at the commencement of period, and sixty-ti»o fresh applications were received. Forty-eight were placed in employment, seven failed to respond to offers of employment, nnd ten failed to report for a month, leaving a total of sixty-one remaining on the regieter." The vocational officer's report, which was adopted, contained the following recommendations:—"That nine trainees who had completed their courses of instruction he paid retained portion of their subsidy; that four loans for tools of trade be granted; that seven applications for books, fees, etc., while studying at schools and coMeges be granted; that Aye applications , for suotenanc-e while training at technical schools and the like be granted; that subsidies be paid to three men while completing apprenticeship, and that twelve trainees in workshops, factories, etc., be subsidised.
