BIRKENHEAD COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Birkenhead Borough CouncU was held Wednesday, The Mayor <Mr. Jas. P. MoPhall) presided, and Councillors E. G. SUea,tes, Kobt. Taylor, A. B. • Wood, H. Boardman, It. Webb, P. C. Backhouse, A. Hadfield, and B. C. Walton were also present.
Sanitary Depot.—The Waltemata County Council intimated that the Birkenhead council's application for a sanitary depot had heen considered, and on the motion of Councillor "Broady had heen declined.
Outside Crushing.—The councU decided it could not undertake the crushing of spawls for the Waltemata Council at present on account of urgent work being carried on ln connection with loan works. Wharf Road.—lt was decided to proceed under the Public Works Act to take the necessary land for the width of a road at the wharf jetties for the purpose of the dedication ot tbe road.
•Water.—The waterworks engineer (Mr. J. Todd) reported that 1,800.000 gallons of water had been used In Birkenhead for the month. The lake level was Bft §in, against 6ft Bin last month. It was decided to request tbe (Lake 'Board of Control to promptly deal with the clearing of the weeds near tbe Intake of the pumping plant. Island Bay.—lt was decided to Inform Mr. A. 6. Jarrett that in the opinion of the council there was not ..reasonable access from the beach to 'the portion of the property referred to at Island Bay, ; (Birkdale.
Regatta.—Tne council declined to alter its decision not to make a donation towards the Northcote and Birkenhead "Regatta on Saturday, an amendment to donate one guinea being defeated.
