(Before Mr. J. E. Wilson, SM£s OBSCENE I-AjrGrrACrE. Ada Warner (43) said she had no recollection of having used obscene language in Yelverton Terrace on January 22, when the charge was pref erred. Constable Meiklejohn, however, gave evidence of the language having been used in front of women and children, and. ehe was ordered to pay a fine of £5, in default a month's imprisonment. In consequence of a gate off the right of •way being unlocked, the constable invited them to the police station, bat two of them ran away and were got later. Subsequent inquiries elicited that they did "have an appointment on premises not connected with the ""frnit mart, and which might be reached in an acrobatifl fashion from the right of way at thd side of the shop.

James Alexander TTaktane Stevenson (30), for Thorn. Mr. A. Moody appeared, was charged' with assaulting Thptwm Woodhouse by catching hold of her arm in the street. The latter gave evidence to the effect that she "iiad arrived with her uncle from JPapalmra, and proceeded from the railway station up Queen Street. Opposite the Warerley Hotel he caught her 4>v the Stand. She pulled away from him, and U>ey crossed, •to the other side of the street, the man following them on the opposite side of the street' At His Majesty's Theatre" the man crossed over, and followed behind, them as far as Wellesley Street, There they complained to a- constable. Evidence was given toy £he uncle to the effect that the man appeared to be imlf drunk. The police evidence was to the effect that accused appeared sober. Ac cused in evidence denied having cangM; complainant by the hand. He may bsve bumped her in the street, and may have touched her hand, as was quite possible fti the crowd.
