DAYLIGHT ROBBERIES.
CAMPAIGN OF CRIME.
BANK MANAGER SHOT,
LONDON, December 14
A most remarkable series of daring robberies occurred yesterday. A man entered the Yorkshire Penny Bank, at Leeds, as the bank was closing. He called out "Hands up," and covered the manager, two clerks, and a woman assistant with a revolver. The manager tried to rush the intruder, but was shot through the head. The man then locked up the clerks in a room, seized £400 in gold, and drove away in a taxi cab that was waiting outside, the driver of which did not know that anything unusual had happened.
Another robbery of £10,000 worth of jewels from a bedroom of a house in Cadogan Square London took place early yesterday evening. The whole household was about. The thieves climbed the portico and entered the first floor. They escaped.
A couple of thieves in a Birmingham restaurant carried away a safe containing £400. Hundreds of diners were looking on and none suspected that a robbery was taking place.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
