As a member of the Auckland City Council -vlr. Glover was instrumental in causing Council employees' wages to ho risen by a further two shillings per day, and after a hard battle he managed to secure for the same workmen full pay for seven statutory holidays. By reference to "Hansard," September, 1917, page 607, the Jiten of the mills can see how Mr. Glover secured higher wage* for the sawmill hands employed at the State mills at PDia and Mamaku. He also battled, at the request of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union, to nave surveyors appointed for the purpose of preventing accidents by testing the cargo gear. Mt. G lover also did hie utmost to influence the Government and others to re-open the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union to men who had been refused re-admittance after the ■1913 strike. He also took up the ease of the -watersiders injured in the dreadful accident on the Monowai. Now, a -word to the painters and diK-o-rators. It ie recorded on page 202, July. 1916, issue of "Hansard," how -Mr. Clover asked the Prime Minister "whether he would frive facilities this session for the- consideration of the Painters and Decorators' Health Protection Bill, and don't forget Mr. Clover -has his keen eye still on this measure. All classes of 'workmen "will rejoice in the fact that Mr. Glover has more than once advocated tlrat injured workmen should l>o granted full pay as from the date of injury. Sow, as to the cost of living question. "Hansard" proves what an able and energetic champion the workers have had in Albert Clover in his attacrke against profiteering. To write up all that the old use pensioners and military pensioners coulil say about JVIr. Clover's personal endeavours on their behalf wonlti take up colxmuiri. Let no working man, after reading this, say that llr. Glover has done nothing ior the workers.
