RY. BIBLE SOCIETY. THE YEAR IN REYIEW. The Auckland branch of the British nd Foreign Bible Society held its annual teeting yesterday afternoon, Canon' lasehlen presiding in the absence of ishop Averill. Satisfaction at the progress made durlg the past year was expressed in the nnual report. By the enrolment of 28 dditional lady collectors, bringing the otal to 36, the scope of the association's ctivities had been widened. An appeal or funds to the amount of £2500 is to c made during the next year. Last ear's income totalled £823 11/1, an lcrease of £300 15/ on last year's figures. The growth and influence of the Bible iociety was dealt with by Rev. W. A. inclair, secretary of the Methodist Forign Missions Board. He showed how ho Word of God had been spread in new ields by issuing the Bible in 35 new mostly amonpj Moslem people. Another striking evidence of the exension of the society's work lay in the act that its last report showed that luring the year the society added seven anguages to its long list of versions, i Inch now totalled 511. Translations or evisions were at present being promoted n at least 100 different tongues. The listribution of volumes for the year otalled 0,387,182. During the four years >f war, the society had issued for war ;ervice alone over 9,000,000 volumes in 75 lifferent forms of speech for combatants in both sides.
