« WAGES OF EMPLOYEES. A DOMINION CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. . At the Town Hall To-day, an important conference of chairman of committees 'formed and managers appointed in con-1 nection with municipal tramway undertakings, also of managers and secretaries of the private tramway systems in Ne~v Zealand and represcntativea of the employees is being held. j ." Preliminary meetings, presided over by the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke), have already been held, and the proposed new conditions and wages discussed. There are representatives present from the local bodies and companies controlling the tramway systems / —municipal and private, electric and cable—of tho Dominion. In connection ! with the electric systems, chairmen of .committees and general managers are present from Auckland, Wellington,. Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Wanganui, and New Plymouth; while I the managers and sawttaries of cable tramway services represent the Roslyn , and Kaikorai (Dunedin) and the Kclburn ; (Wellington) companies.
j The object of the conference is to I come to a decision on the matter of a .Dominion agreement relating to wages, . general conditions and hours of labour. ! The demands of the employees for increased wages and generally improved conditions have already been published. i It is understood that in addition to the question of a national agreement, | important subjects will be discussed at the conference.
