NO CRIMINAL TYPE.
A PRISONS INVESTIGATION. LARGELY DEFECTIVES. (Received 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, November 26. The most ' important criminological work ever conducted has been summarised and published by the Prisons Committee under the superintendence of Professor Karl Pearson, Professor of Eugenics at the University of London - and Director of Natural Eugenics. Three thousand convicts were collected, measured, and watched. The results proved that a criminal type does not exist. Criminals do not possess, abnormal physical or mental characteTI istics, but belong largely to a defective .class physically and mentally, but j criminality is not a morbid state akin to physical disease. The report nevertheless admits that criminality is subject to heredity. (Times.)
