PIGEON FLYING.
RECORD .FLY FROM' PAEKAKARIKI. The Auckland Flying Club's race held last Saturday was a surprise. Owing to the birds putting up such' fast times all tli.-? members were caught napping, the exception being Mr. W. 11. Billing, of Mount Even. He -being a keen, experienced flier, anticipating a fast fly, -was -home to receive his birds, and to secure the fat end of the prize. The birds were liberated at 0 a.m. by the stiitioiiuuister, -,v ideal weather, with a light south-east wind. The winning bird arrived at Its loft at 11.47 a.m., doing the 287 miles In 5 hours 17 minutes, n record. This is the second record put up by the club this season; a third, .held for some time, being beaten last Saturday by the Northern Club, in the Ohakune "race. The following are the first six velocities per minute in yards:— W. il. Billing's b ell cock Tnsman. 1,455 yards ~ 1 N. J. Wnddells b eh hen Esther. 1,382 yards 2 A. Turner's blue eh hen Form Up, 1,305 yards 6 Also competed, 50 birds, representing 11 lofts. ___________
