Martens, Russian Soviet Ambassador, confessed to bribing Mr. Malone, exCollector of Customs in New York, to allow shipments of food and chemicals to Petrograd. Martens asserted that the Lenin Government intended to recognise the Imperial Russian debt. Martens allo stated that Lenin and Trotsky no longer preached an anticapitalistic world war~ but instead were anxious to make compromises with the other nations in the hope of securing a renewal of friendly relations—(A. and XJZ.
