ESTIMATE OF REVENUE.
FIXED AT £23,455,000. AVOIDING A DEFICIT. <By Telegrapu.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, Wednesday. ' ' The Minister of Finance, speaking on . the Appropriation Bill, gave a revved I estimate of the country's finances, bearI ing a more cheerful appearance than his early morning statement. The revenue for seven months of the ) current year, he said, showed an increase I j compared with the seven months of last | : year of £11,103,000. Therefore he wished ! ito reviee his estimate of the year's revenue, which Tie now fixed at £55,455.000. ' There was £520,000 excess revenue in sight, which, added to the surplus, I totalled £1,014,000 to meet ,-otes on the • Supplementary Estimates. } He had deliberately placed the butter : tax in the Appropriation Bill because it ' was a fair charge against accumulated surplusee; but. -even had it been placed on the Estimates, he believed the year I would end with an excess of revenue. ! The Treasury was of opinion that at | least half a million expenditure autho- ! rised would not be actually incurred, and that, given normal times'during the remaining; five months, the balance in ' the Consolidated Fund would be on the ' i right side.
