I A fair amount of business was transacted at. tfie third call of the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. New Zeaj land Paper shares were transferred jat £1 10/3, and New Zealand insurance |at fl 11/. Sales of Auckland Gas paid j issue were made at £1 6/3, and New Zealand Refrigerating new issue changed hands at fl 4/6. Wilsons (N.Z.) | Cement firmed a penny, being sold at 15/11. In mining shares Mount Lyells wore sold at £1 7/3, and Waihis up to to £2 9/C; the rise in the latter stock following-one in London. The Exchange will be closed on Monday on account of Labour Day. Sergeant R. E. Fortune, of Royal Bash, , has been advised that he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. Dr. H. ■. M. Hay has been appointed sixth resident medical officer at Christchurch Hospital. Brigadier-General Young was enter;tained at a banquet at Marton last | evening by representatives oi all parts iof Rangitikci prior to his departure to | take charge of the Otago Military District.
