THE BOY SCOUTS.
INSPECTION OF PONSONBY TROOP. The Provincial Commissioner of Jhe Boy Scouts, Mr. R. .S. Abel, accompanleoby Mr. a. _ Campbell; Deputy-Commissioner, Mr. <V "J 1 ? 6 ?. G. ■_» lngli.. paid a visit of inspection to the Jervois Troop, Ponsonby, last night. -The total strength on parade •was -53, under Scoutmaster Rees. Satisfaction was expressed at the work done by the boys, which Included an exhibition of ■bridge-building, plau-maklnz. and other branches of scout work. The Commissioner commended the boys for their diligence and efficiency, and urged them to endeavour to bring back from- tbe South tropliles whlc-h •were at one time 3ield here, but had, since been carried off by Southern trocps. D=p-_-.--Commissioner Campbell referred to 'lis former connection with the, Ponsonby Scouts, which held an unbroken record ot eleven years' training. This gave them the premier place for continuous work among Auckland scouts. Another splendid record was that made by the'long list of .Ponsonby scouts who had vol_ntcer_d for active service, and whose names, he suggested, should he recorded upon a roll of honour in All Saints' Church. M!r. T. TV. 'Leys, chairman of the Ponsonby Scout Advisory l Committee, cordially welcomed the visitinr officers, and especially Deputy-Commissioner J. D.. Campbell, whose enthusiasm in by- ■ gone years had so firmly established the ! movement in the hearts of Ponsonby boys, j that devotion to the work haofbeen transm itted from- one generation of boys to their successors. Three rousing cheers were given for the visitors. The Dartmouth Cyclist troop, com- : prising eighteen senior scouts, specially qualified es cyclists and ambulance j workers. under Scoutmaster Phil'ourn, I was also inspected at Kingsland last night. The Eden troop," under Scoutmaster 5. H. Bid well, and the Cromwell troop, under J f-'tovti-as-ter F. L. Moodie, were both inspected at Mount Eden on Thursday "cviiiI lug. The Eden troop mustered 87 members 1' and the Cromwell troop 18. the latter including a large percentage of Mng's Scouts.
