NORTH AUCKLAND LINE.
HOW TO SAVE 22 MILES. {By Telegraph.—Special to "Srar.") W_-__IXGTON, Friday. An important item which Mr. Harris (Waitemata) missed from the Public I Works Estimates is the Waitemata rail- ' way. He told the House to-night that it was in no parochial spirit, but in tie interests of the whole of the settlers of Xorth Auckland that he wished to urge the Government to commence construction oi this line, which commenced on the northern side of the Waitemata Harbour, and junctioned with the Xorth Auckland Main Trunk at Kaukapakapa, which would be brought within 22 miles of Auckland, instead of its present distance of 44 miles by rail. A trial survey had been made, showing clearly its great advantages. The present line was Hdly congested, but i' 'would be much Inferable to construct a Waitemata b'-onch rather than deviations over heavy grades on a roundabout route. He koped next year's Public Works Estimates would contain a vote to enable a start to be made.
