CLERGYMEN'S STIPENDS.
A MINIMUM SUGGESTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The question of stipends was discussec 'by the Anglican Synod, which rejected i motion that the -bishop license no assis tant curate to any cure unless guaran tees are given to the satisfaction of tin Standing Committee "that his stipend vvil 'not be less than £200 for a deacon am £250 for a priest. Bishop Julius, in announcing the resu!: of the vote, promised that the matte would not bo forgotten, and he wouh take care that it would go before tin Standing Committee for consideration. Subsequently the synod carried a reso lution that the minimum stipend fo clergy in charge of parishes and paro ehial districts should be £350 yearly, in elusive of any grant from church' pro perty, tryst, or church mission funds with a free vicarage or equivalent hone ing allowance.
