SCHEME FOR AMALGAMATION. DISCUSSED AT XORTHCOTE. The Birkenhead Borough Council last light discussed a letter from the Xorth•ote Council requesting support for ' •lauses forwarded to Parliament with :hc object of making amalgamation of j :ie North Shore districts permissible if • ie>ired. and also joining the districts in! the urban education district of Devon-' lort. ir. Taylor considered it a waste of i lime :o discuss the matter further. II ■' he decision to include Little Shoal Bay' i Keserve in the borough was adopted by 1 N'ortheote they could go ahead with the' mialganiatioa of the boroughs. ': Cγ. Walton pointed out that since a|: it-.uilock had l>een reached over the in- ' lusion of the reserve in the Kirkenhead '•' ttorough it seemed the only way out to | let rid of the legal difficulty was by means of a clause such as sugsested' 'ping passed by Parliament. Ihe clause proposed was read, viz.: j ■Whereas it has been proposed that the! , tiorouglis of Xorthcote. I'.irkenhead. and: Fakapuna lie for all or any purposes! amalgamated and constituted one' borough under the provisions of the' Municipal Corporations Act, 130 S. and. its amendments: and whereas it is' loomed advisable that the said boroughs should iie declared one continuous area j in order that the said proposal may. if; ilesired. be given effect to in the future, Up it therefore enacted as follows: The »aid boroughs of Xorthcote, Birkenhead, and Takapuna, for the purpose of en-: t Ming such proposal to be given effect to, are hereby declared to be one continuous area.'" i The Mayor said he was unaware of any ' [roposal to amalgamate with Takapuna. and the clause seemed misleading. He moved: "That the Xorthcote Council be informed that no exception will be taken by the Birkenhead Council to the clause providing the reference to the Takapuna Borough is deleted.' , Cγ. Hadfield seconded, and this was, carried.
