DISORDERLY PROCEEDINGS.
AT P.P.A. MEETING. GREYMOUTH HALL STONED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Information has been received of disorderly proceedings at Greymouth on Monday evening, "w'aen, it « etated, the Methodist School Hall was seriously damaged and several pereons injured as the result of an attack with etonee and other missiles by a hostile crawd in the street. A meeting of the Protestant Political Association was being held in the hall at the time,' tunong those present being Mr. Howard Elliott. Official information goes to show that about 500 people assembled in Chappell Street, outside the .Methodist Hall. •Stones were thrown at the windows of the Vmildinrr, and 30 panes of plass were broken. Two or three persons inside the hall were struck by stones, but none ■were seriously hurt. Beyond the stone-thrawing there was no disturbance of any moment. All the available police were present, and these did everything in their power to enforce order. Pome of the etonee were thrown from the* roof of a house in the vicinity of the hall, but, as the street was badly lighted, the police could not identify the ofTendnrs. Tt is stated that +V j> was a feeling of hostility to Mr. Flliout, and that the ■police found it necessary to afford him protection until he left for Christchurch on Tuesday morning.
