" The Christclmrch public has taken to the consumption of frozen meat with avidity. A butcher at Addington market yesterday said that but for this new development acting as a brake on competition amongst butchers, prices at Addityton would have soared to famine rates and a retail rise to a considerable extent would have been inevitable The amount of fat cattle offering was the smallest on record. Under the circumstances it was inevitable that prices' should advance, and, although a rise of several pounds a hee.l nctually occurred this advance would" have been trebled it it had not been for the factor of frozen meat. The supply of fat sheep, l proportionately ' was even worse, about one-third of the normal retirements being yarded, but the advance in prices , was remarkably low under the circum- I twt-n 1 !: iS Btated b - v that theie will be no retail rise in meat in i most cases.
