SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS.

AUCKLAND BRANCH. Tbe annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the N.Z. Society of Accountants was held last night In tile -Society's room, Wyndham Chambers. -WrtJeo. W. Hutchison presided over a good attendance of members.

The annual report expressed thankfulness at the termination of the war, and referred to the record of the Society in war time activities. The Society had contributed some £2333 directly to patriotic funds and in subscriptions remitted of members on active service. It had also conducted a comprehensive scheme for tbe instruction In bookkeeping of returned disabled soldiers, but as this did nor receive very hearty support from tbe returned men, the Society very reluctantly had to abandon the scheme after spending; a considerable amount upon it. It had also invested £1000 in War Loan bonds, aud individual members C:ad audited free of charge the accounts of the various patriotic societies.

The branch roll of honour showed that .14 members bad served during the war. Three had been killed in action, while a considerable number had been wounded, and 'many had gained honourable distinctions.

The report further outlined the activities of tbe brunch, including lectures, remits to council, use of library, etc., aud referred to t_e fact that the 'Society's examinations were being recognised in the various branches of the Public Service.

j A deputation ot the Council had waited I upon the Minister of Internail Affairs, pointing out the necessity of legislation iicing brought down hi reference to the audit of all Trust Accounts. The Minister agreed to consult Cabinet on the question, and also promised to further consider the question of the protection of the word "accountant."

The necessity of a better system of audit of Friendly Societies accounts was also referred to.

It was decided that public accountants' offices should observe the Dominion Day Jiollday on Tuesday, the 23rd, in order to coincide with the welcome to H. 11.5. New Zealand.
