INDUSTRIES DEBATE.
INSURANCE OF WORKERS. REASON FOR DEFECT IN REPORT. (By Telegraph.—Parliamenrtary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The House resumed the debate on the report of the Industries Committee when it met after the dinner adjournment tonight, and was still debating it at 1 a.m. At 12.30 Mr. Poland, who was a member of the committee, explained a number of points about which questions had been asked by different speakers. He discussed inter alia the absence in the report of a full statement respecting the committee's views respecting insurance against sickness, invalidity, accident, and unemployment, and admitted that the absence of such a statement was a defect in the report. Time, however, did not permit of this and other questions being fully investigated. In his opinion this question of insurance of workers against dis- | abilities was one of great importance, i and should be the subject of closer inquiry by a Parliamentary committee. jAs the result of his experience he was 'satisfied that no body of men were | better fitted for such investigation than i a committee of the House, and he hoped the Government would set up such a i committee with a view of having the I whole matter of insurance placed on a I better and more satisfactory basis.
