4/- A DAY FOR PRIVATES. LONDON, September 17. The following new rates of pay have been fixed for privates and non-commis-sioned officers of the British Army: Private recruit. 2/9 daily for the first two years, ami :i/o a day afterwards, plus (id a day proficiency pay; sergeant, 7/ a day; regimental sergeant-major, 14/ a day.—(A. and N.Z.
