ELLERSLIE TOWN BOARD.
j The Ellerslie Town .Board met,on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs. S. Somerfield (chairman), A. Ferguson, A. Hewson, to, A. Moore, Geo. Thorpe, and J. Wooller.
The Horahora Scheme—lt was decided to accept an inyifcation to send representatives to attend a conference of local bodies, held .in the Mt. Eden Borough Council Chambers, for the jnupose of discussing ■the Horohora scheme, etc.
Tramway .Service. —In answer to the board's request to rflhe .Auckland City Council to consider the question of extending the itramwav system to 'EllersUie, a letter was received, that owing to 'the increased cost of material, the question could not be considered at present.
uaectricitv.—lt was resolved 'to ask tbe City Council to consider the question ot extending the electric lighting and power to Ellerslie, pointing out that, as EHerslie Li so compact, the expense of fitting up the ■district would be mirutmteed, and practicaiHy 1 a continuation of the .Kemuexa supply.
Main IRoad.—Mr. Moore reported -that he ■had attended Hie iManukau .County Council meeting, witih Mt. Hfwson, and 'the question of control of the Great South .Road from the junction of Manukau Road to Papnkura was discussed. Mx. A. D. Bell (chairman of the County Council) had advised the deputation that his council had decided to' ask the ratepayers' consent to raise a loan for an up-to-date road-snaking plant, which if .procured would enable the council to deal with the roads In the district. It was felt -that the whole length of •the Great iSouth IRoad between ihe parts mentioned should be treated In a uniform manner, and the resolution was carried •asMng the Mamikau County Council to call a meeting of all the local bodies controlling the Great 'South ißoad. in .order th:Vt a uniform scheme of improvement I c.onld be discussed and Government ap•proaiCbed for a straight out grant or a übsidy on the £ for £ basis.
Maintenance.—'Several matters dealing with maintenance works were referred to tbe Works Committee.
