DOMESTIC SCIENCE TEACHERS
BETTER PAY TO BE GIVEN. The efficiency of some of the domestic - science teachers in the employ of the ) Auckland Education Board was the subt. jeet of a discussion at yesterday's meet- : ing of the board. The question arose f | when the appointment of four teachers i at a salary of £ ißu each, was under . I consideration, and the chairman ques'ltioncd whether the salary offered was * I good enough. He pointed out that the 51 subject was a very important one, on - which only expert instructors should be i appointed. Other members of the board 31 also thought that a better salary should •| be offered. t Miss Juniper, director of domestic ;' science, while supporting the suggested ,' I increase in salary, said that she could -not say that all of the present teachers 3 J were efficient. In one case she had fjseen children instructed to bring one r! clean article of clothing to wash during r]a two-hour laundry class. In another -1 case, she found sugar and flour spilt on f j the floor. For their own sakes, as well , as the welfare of the children, the teach- . ers should make an opportunity of getting better training. It was decided that t- the salaries of teachers holding diplomas . | should be fISO, rising to £200 after the s j first year, and for those holding a de- > t I gree, £200 and £220. }\ -
