FARES TO BAYSWATER.
(To the Editor.) Sir.—Your correspondent, J. W. Wilson, writing re Takapuna tram 6, opens his subject by asking why Takapuna residents can no longer purchase season tickets on the steamer whilst Bayswater can do so? In asking this question ycur correspondent has ignored the circumstances that have led up to the present situation. The alteration of the tariff is certainly drastic, and it is one that affects the welfare of the Borough aa a whole, but it is a poor argument to begrudge Bayswater its rights because of Takapuna losing its concessions through declining to come to an arrangement, with the Tramway Company over the recent proposed re-adjii6tmcnt of tram fares. May I be permitted to remind your correspondent that Bayswater is not receiving preferential treatment at all, as he will find by consulting the rates in opcrntion to any marine suburb of the city, of Auckland?
Bayswater would certainly like to see faros throughout at a minimum figure, but it is rather too fresh to expect valiant little Bayswater to carry Takaptina's additional burdens on its back. The solution of the problem of rates o! transport to Takapuna is not to be found in howling against the treatment Bayswater receives which, as councillors can inform you, has its troubles also. —I am, etc., * LOADED.
