GREEDY BURGLARS.

GROCER'S SHOP ENTERED.

Wheeler's Dominion Road branch store was burglariously entered between Saturday night and Sunday morning. A local resident passing on Sunday observed the shop door standing open, slammed it, and reported the occurrence.

Investigation showed that the door lock had been tampered with, as had also a side window, the latter having been forced open, and it is doubtful by which way illegal entrance was effected. There had not apparently been anything of much value stolen. The cash register had been cleared of coin after closing time on Saturday, and, the drawer having been left unlocked, the intruders would have been able to satisfy their curiosity in this direction without doiii" any damage.

There were signs, however, that somebody had made very free with salmon, tinned milk and biscuits, using a tinopener evidently brought along "with malice aforethought." A bottle of eucalyptus had also been uncorked, so if Sherlock Holmes had been put on the job smartly he would probably have found a man suffering from a cold in the head and with a very strong perfume. The police are now making inquiries, and they are no doubt keeping in mind that this is not the only recent burglary in this neighbourhood.
