A WARNING TO HOUSEWIVES. siK.RIOUS SITUATION IN AUCKLAND. The si ruin upon the gas supply consequent upon the shortage of coal, was -he subject of a conference between the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. A. .1. Kntrican) and Mr. l.owe. of the Auckland (las Company this morning. Mr. l.owe reported that coal stocks for gas purposes in Auckland were dangerously low, and that the position was rather worse than a week ago. Further supplies of a limited character were expected by the end of the week, hut there was still a posi:ive necessity of economising ill the use of gas. both for lighting and cooking. If sudden necessity arose for drastic restrictions, due notice would be given by the tins Company to consumers. The position in regard to stocks at the city electrical works is unchanged, and jno further curtailments are anticipated for the time being.
