LESSONS FROM THE WAR. ASSISTANCE FOR ESSENTIALS. LONDON, August 24. Mr. Lloyd George's summary of the Government's policy in regard to "unstable key industries,'' defines such industries as fulfilling the following tests: An industry which furnishes a product essential for war or for the maintenance of the country during war: an industry so neglected before the war that there was an inadequate supply of its product dnrinfi the war; an industry in regard to which the Government found it necessary to take special steps during the war; an industry, which, if special Government support were withdrawn, could not maintain itself at a level of production essential to the national life. It is proposed that the fees to be cfir.rged for the issue of licenses to import goods produced by such unstable industries shall be fixed with regard to each case to meet the difference between the Tirice at which the article can lie imported and the price at which a similar article can be sold in the United Kingdom. Mr. Lloyd George stated that it may be necessary for some years that the Government shall continue to assist such industries.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) A CHECK ON DUMPING. PREVENTING PRICE CUTTING. With reference to Mr. Lloyd George's statement in Parliament on the subject of trade policy, tho Board of Trade announces that legislation will be introduced in tho autumn session to protect goods manufactured in Britain and Ireland against dumping, by taking power to prevent the sale in this country of Rimilar goods -beneath their price in the eountrv of origin, and to enable the Board "of Trade to check any flood of imports that might arise from, tdie collapse of exchange.— ,
