HORAHORA PURCHASE.

GETTING TO WORE. In a telegram to Mr. J. A. Young, M.P., announcing the. purchase of the Horahora hydro-electric- plant, the Minister of Public Works (Sir William 1-Vaser) states: —"It would not have suited to have purchased under the. compulsory clauses contained in the license, for reasons which I can explain to you later on. My object has 'been to retain for the use of the public as much as possible of the power generated. This, I think, I have achieved on satisfactory terms." Mr. Young replied, congratulating the Minister, and stating that he felt sure that the purchase would prove advantageous to the State. Sir William Fraser states that it was bis intention to at once send bis officers into the districts surrounding Horahora to ascertain the power that is likely tobe required in each locality. Surveys will be instituted at once for the purpose of laying out lines /or transmission and reticulation.
