It was ever the Taranaki tram which gave Auckland the closest games for the Ranfurly Shield tind eventually, in Taranaki took the Shield, beating Auckland, at Potter'f Paddock, by 11 points to S. The only later rep. match between Auckland anc Taranaki was played at Xew Plymoutl in 1314. when Auckland won by 13 tc S. than the one which was narrowly beaten by Wellington some weeks ago. It is composed in the main of young players, fast and nippy, with a leavening of old hands. Their manager is satisfied that , however fast the pace is made they will t keep with it. and whatever way the win goes his proteges will play a game worthy of the traditions of the province. To date Auckland and Taranaki have played 29 matches* of which Auckland has won IS. Taranaki eight, and three ! have been drawn. j A a curtain-raiser to the big frame, J a match will be played between Auk- 1 land fintnnat School and New Plymouth High School, two college teams that may be relied on to make a fast, ottractive game. An innovation at the Park will be the use of a scoring board, facing the grandstands, co that patrons may see the state of the game at a glance at any stage.
