THE RETURNED BANK CLERK
(To the Editor.) |j Sir, —You deserve the thanks of every !- Tight minded nran and woman in tha conimuuity for your able article in the '" Star" re returned bank - clerks. It is certainly extraordinary < reading that our "leading banking insti- ' tution"' will make "every effort, as op-port-unity arises,"' to find an opening for •their former clerks, who, without , thought of self, volunteered to save such institutions and everything else that we hold most dear. How -renerous of triebank, especially as it was pointed out in their late balance that there were 2V6 '-acting lema.ie clerks"' in their service. There had been more, but some "had resigned owing to husbands coming back. Our soldier conscript-, as well as volunteers, deserve the first consideration. We are told that many of them | are inexperienced in banking' business, j Were the women so, or are we asked to believe that our men have fallen below j the standard of those clever women, some-of whom shouldn't be thfere at all', thedr parents being quite able and willing to keep them. The "straight-out answer" of the bank to the Canterbury Repatriation Board is awaited by ail Rympathiisers of rhrht and justice.—l am, etc., A SYMPATHISER.
