THE INDIAN INFLUX.

(To the Killtor.l Sir, —-Several letters have appeared recently on the above question, most of them being hostile in tone. There ds always another side to a question, and I shall endeavour to give it Indians are part of the great Aryan race, and so are the British. Indians are also members of the British Empire. India has helped us British more than once, especially at the time of the cotton famine in Lancashire. Since these Indians are here and are not parasites on the community, why should they be publicly insulted in the Press? Their women are not allowed to join them, and if these Indians live as untidy bachelors, well, there are plenty of untidy white bachelors in this country. Our standard of living is steadily falling, but that is not the fault of the Indian. Rack-rented houses, shoddy clothing, and dear food are a legacy we have recently acquired, but not from the Indian. As a Christian nation we owe these Indians a duty, the duty of educating and lifting them up. What church will organise an English class where these men may learn to read and enjoy English literature, including the Bible? Surely' their souls h-.ive a value in the sight of God. If (>\>J had given the opponents of the Indian coloured skins, and a crowded environment they would (being self-conscious) have done exactly what the Indians have done, emigrated to ii more favourable country. —1 am, etc., GOLDEX RULE.
