FOX OUT DISTRICTS. FAR-REAt HIXG LEGISLATION. 'By Telegraph.—Press Association.! WELLINGTON", this day. Tiie Minister of Health stated to-day that the question of extending the medical service throughout the Dominion had bee-: receiving full consideration. A number <>f nurses were already established under the Government's new scheme, which provides that fees shall he Collected in various districts in order to recoup consolidated revenues for the cost of nurses. Tl.c Minister also pointed out that tinder the Public Health Amendment Act provi-ion is made for the appointment of resident medical practitioners in local districts under a county council or other local authority, power being given such body to pay the salary of a doctor either out of tbe general rate or to frame a separate rate. Power is also given for
two districts to combine fir this purpose. Also, power is given a local authority to pay out of its ordinary funds mcincy to pny society, organisation, or institution whose object is to promote tl.e public health.
Tin- .Minister added that these proposals are far-reaching in their effect on public health, and it is a source of satisfaction i» him. before his retirement from the position of Minister of Public Heath for the Dominion, to lie able to point out that during his term of office two great reforms were established which be l>elieved will have an enormous effect in promoting medical service for people in the outer districts.
