NEW COAST ROAD.

ON THE NORTH SHORE. PLANS MOVE APACE. Arrangements for submitting to the ratepayers of the Waitemata CountyCouncil the recently-formed scheme of a new trunk road from Brown's Bay to Devonport, thus opening up the seaside properties, and dismissing the need for the permanent formation of a number of "feeder" roads which are at present steeply graded and are unsuitjable from their nature to be otherwise, are progressing apace. This coastal road scheme, if approved, will cost approximately £10,000, which will include the bridging of the Wairau Creek at Milford Beach and the metalling of existing clay stretches of the coast road to link up with other portions to be constructed by land owners. All the ratepayers' meetings have been practically unanimous in favour of the innovation, a notable objector being Mr. C. J. Parr, who contends that the better; plan is to metal the side roads from tha old trunk road, which in itself might be greatly improved. In addition to tha bridging of the Wairau Creek, it involved the bridging of Deep Creek and Okura Creek.

At present the county engineer is preparing surveys of the hitherto unsurveyed portions of this road with a viewto preparing detailed estimates and making a formal proposal to the ratepayers.
