LAW STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL BAIL. The ball organised by the Law Students' Society of Auckland as their second annual dance took place on Friday evening, -when there wa3 a very large attendance. It had ibeen intended originally to make the affair an annual fixture, 'but the war intervened, and thi3 was the first .function to be held after the armistice. The main hall had been very tastefully decorated under (he direction of a committee consisting of Misses D. L. Egerton, W. E. Forde, E. R. Gallagher, and Messrs. E. M. Algie. E. L. Bartleet, B. P. Cahill, F. J. Cox, C. B. Gallagher, C. J. Garland, P. Grey, B. C. Hart, R. H. Mackay, 0. L. Martelli, H. M. Rogerson, and H. JB. Speight. Each pillar was wreathed -with delicate bamboo, and across the stage were massed pot plants and palms, making an effective setting for the chaperones, who were Mesdames R. M. Algie, T. X. 'Baxter, C. F. Buddie, T. W. Leys, C. J. Parr, J. R. Reed, and J. A. Tole. The galleries -were outlined with drapery in red, white and blue, and the supper room, which was arranged as a buffet, had been profusely decorated for the occasion by Misses Gallagher and Ford. Each pillar was a waving of greenery interspersed with white lilies and camellias, and seats were arranged around for the dancers. The buffet looked very gay with ite coloured lights and the gay frocks worn by the youthful dancers. The walls wore hung with flags, and a very pretty effect was obtained. Upstairs the Concert Chamber had been arranged with a profusion of bunting into a splendid supper room, with seventy tables, each to seat four. Down *he middle of the hall was a long table with a profusion of scarlet-topped jellies and luscious looking creams, while small white plaster replicas of Roea Bonheur's well-known ''Horse in Action" conetituted a very remarkable form of table decoration. Downstairs the ball room soon began to fill, and when the opening waltz took place nearly a thousand dancers were on the floor. The programme contained all the new dances as well as the old favourites, and dancing wentt forward till two o'clock in the morning.
