SOCIAL JOTTINGS. Miss Jean GTcy, of Dunedin, is staying at Stonehurst. Mrs. Hunter and Miss McLean, of Gore, Southland, are at present at Stonehurst. Mr. and Mrs. Robb, of Gisborne, are at Stonehurst awaiting the sailing of the Makura fer Vancouver. Mies Dorothy Hamilton, of Epsom, left by the Makura for Sydney, where she joins the Ormonde en route to England. A party, consisting of Mr. and Mre. T. G. Seymour and Miss Cattanach, of Whangarei, left by the Makura for Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. James Auld, of Christchurch, who have been staying at Stonehurst. have taken a residence alt Remuera. Mre. Austin and the Misses Austin (2), of Clonbern Road, who have been staying at Stonehurst, have now moved into their new home in Wcstbourne Road. Mrs. Wiseman mentioned at the annual meeting of the Y.W.C.A. that the Girl's Hostel accommodated fifty girls a month, and there was need for further expansion. It was mentioned at the Y.W.C.A annual meeting that the Cafeteria takings in June last year were £31, while in June this year the total had risen to £162. The engagement is announced of Miss Mary Augusta Briggs, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 11. W. Briggs, of Whangarei, to Lieut. E. S. Rainnie, of the 2nd Otago Battalion. Dr. William Todd, of Methven, Canterbury, who has been staying- at Stonehurst, accompanied by hie mother and sisters, returned South by the Rarawa on Friday. (Pleasing reference was made at tho annual meeting of the Y.W.C.A. to the work done in this city by Mise Irene Glasson. of Adelaide, who has now taken up extension work in Melbourne. The visiting , domestic helper of the Women's National Reserve in Wellington has been granted a concession ticket on the tram cars on the same conditions as those granted to the nurses employed by philanthropic and charitable institutions. The engagement is announced of Miss Bessie Were, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Were, of Hawera, to Major H. G. Wilding, D.5.0., eldest son of Mrs. H. N. Wilding, of Taurunga. The citizens' ball to Admiral Jellicoe will be given in the first couple of days of the visit of H.M.s. New Zealand, states the Christchurch "Press." Tho ball will be held in the Colosseum, which is estimated to accommodate 1,000 couples. The vacant section between the Colosseum and Manchester Street will be floored and covered in for supper rooms, buffets, and so on.
