AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. SECOND ROUND. The second round of the Auckland Goir Glut) s championship was played at Middleluore on Saturday, and resulted in some close finishes. The veteran golfer, W. B. Colbeck, struck form, and* after a clinking good match, beat Macintosh, 2 and 1. D. Mncfarlane won tie match from Grey, leaving him in the semi-final. Ralph, was beaten by K. O. Gardner, While Binney beat P. Upton. ■ The match between Co&eck and Macintosh was one of the best of the day, and Colbeck played at his old championship form. The first hole, in which bath players were wide with their approaches, -was won by Macintosh with a five. In every subsequent hole in the match, the winner of the hole was either all square on bogey, or under. Oolbeck was all square of his opponent at the second, bat Macintosh won the third. The fourth, fifth, and sixth were halved. Colbeck won the seventh, and ttoe eighth, was halved, Colbeck squaring at the ninth with an excellent five. The tenth was won by Mtlntosh in three, tat Colbeck squared again at the eleventh .-with a four. The twelfth was halved in a well-played four, Colbeck winning the thirteenth in five, his opponent having palled his drive behind a tree-guard. Macintosh missed a short pott at the fourteenth for a half in five, leaving Colbeck 2 up and 4 to play. ' The fifteenth was Halved in five, and the sixteenth was won toy Macintosh with a good three, leaving Colbeck 1 up and 2 to play. Each had a putt for a five at the seventeenth. Colbeck holed his and won the match, 2 and 1. Gardner and Ralph had a keen game. They haired the first in four, and the second in five. Ralph won the third with five to Gardner's nix, and Gardner won the fourth in five to a sixth for Ralph. The fifth was haired with two well-played fours, Gartner winning the sixth in four making him 1 up. Ralph won the seventh with a good three, bringing him all square. The eighth was halved in four, and Gardner won the ninth with a six, Ralph evening matters at tin tenth with a four. At the eleventh they lalved with two well-played fours, and the was halved in five. Gardner won ne thirteenth In fire, and halved irttti his opponent at the fourteenth. The fifteenth mtie won by Gardner with another five, making him 2up with 3 to play. A four-at the sixteenth gave Ihim the match, 3 and 2.
