BIRKENHEAD COUNCIL. COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Birkenhontl Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. Jas. P. MePhall) presided, nnd Councillors P. C. Backhouse, Robt. Taylor, E. C. Walton, Albert HadQeld. A. E. Wood, IT. Boardman, John R. McPhail. and Robt. Webb were ulso present. Domain.—The audited balance-sheet was received. A committee, consisting of the chairman (Mr. J. P. McPhall) and Messrs. K. C. Walton, A. Hadfield, and It. Taylor, was appointed to frame a scheme for the Improvement of the Domain.
Caution.—The chief inspector of explosives wrote pointing out the precautions which should be observed in connection with the u*e of fireworks, etc.. for the peace celebrations, in order to guard against lire and accident.
Amalgamation.—The report of the recent conference between the Birkenhead and Nortucote Councils was adoptcu, which contained a recommendation that the amalgamation of rhe two boroughs should be seripowered to convene the conference at the beginning of July on an evening suitable to the members of the Northcote Council.
Bus Service.—Considerable discussion arose over the report of a conference with the directors of the Motor Bus Company. The Council decided to give an undertaking that six months' notice would be given to the company of any intention to establish a municipal bus service, while the Council declined to grant a subsidy to the company. Payment to Councillors.—No action was taken relative to the resolution forwarded by the Wain! Borough Council that the Municlii.nl Corporations Act be amended so as to allow payment of not less than one guinea per day to councillors engaged on Borough Council business.
Enrolment.—The Gixborne Rorongh Council submitted a resolution urging that when the municipal rolls are being prepared the names o f all borough re-sldents appearing on the Parliamentary roll then In force should be placed upon the municipal roll. Xo ac-
