WINTER. MEETING CONCLUDED. TROUBLESOME WINS STEEPLES. The third day's racing of the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting was held it Eilerslie to-day in perfect weather* There was a large attendance, and speculation was brisk. Results of the racing so far are as follow: — TAMAKI STEEPLECHASE, of 300sovs. Two miles and a-half. Mr. J. T. Morton's eh g Ulster, aged fry Gladstone—Vlctorine, 10.13 (Preston) I Mr. .1. Williamson's eh g No Surrender, ."iyrs., 9.7 (Keepa) 3 Mr. C. A. Green's b g Jaearanda, aged, 9.7 (Roach) 3 Also started: Grafton Tot 0.13, Sir John. 9.7. Jaearanda was first to show out. ana he piloted the way up the hill, followed by Grafton Tot, No Surrender, and Ulster,' with Sir John toiling in the rear. Jacaranda showed the way over the double Iα front of the stand, with No Surrender and Ulster in that order, Grafton Tot being next, some distance back, and Si r John ft long way back, last. Going along tb.% back and through the dip Ulster moved up to No Surrender, and the pair set out after Jaearanda as they went up the hill, Grafton Tot following, while Sir John pulled up. The leading trio took the second fence oa top of the hill together, and Ulster recovering quickest showed the -nay down th« slope from No Surrender, with Jacnranda beaten off. Racing at the last hurdle No Surrender had a slight advantage, bnt once over Ulster came away, and. finishing the stronger, got the verdict by two and ahalf lengths. Jacarauda was llfteen lengths away, third, and Grafton Tot last. Time, 5.3. Ulster was favourite. ORAKI HURDLE RACE, of 250sovs. One mile and three-quarters. Mr. It. Orpheum and Benzine showed out whea the barrier lifted, followed by Signature, Gunwale, and Lochellfl. with Otara last. ■When the field reached the stand Orpheum was still showing the way from Gunwale and Signature, with Benzine, Garryowen, Entente Cordiale, Lochella, Monopole, NotablHty. and Otara racing in that order. Going nlong the back Gunwale took the lead from Benzine, Orpheum falling back into third position, with Signature and Entente Cordiale most prominent of the others. Crossing the top Gunwale wat still the leader, with Signature and Benzine handy, Lochella and Garryowen being next. Gunwale fell before rounding the turn, leaving Signature in the lead, with Lochella and Benzine coming fast. Once over the last .hurdle Benzine drew away, and won by a length, while Lochella beat Slguature by two lengths for second position. Notability was fourth, and thea fame Garryowen, Monopole, Entente Cordiale, and Orpheum, with Otara last. Time, 3.22. Monopole was favourite. YORK WELTER HANDICAP, of 73Osovs; one mile. Mr .T. Paddington Green and Hineamam being particularly misbehaved. Before they were let go Tinopai, Rockfield and Paddlugton Green went through the barrier, nnd when the tape was eventually released it was to a very uneven dispatch, for White Blaze. Killard, and Fabriquette were badly left, while Paddington Green* rider was caught in the tape and came off. When they settled down Hurry.. "Tip, Escaped. Housewife. Mcltchlfcoff, Bedford, All Talk. Illneamarn. Tinopai. Sir Ralpli and Alteration was the order. HyHus heading the rest. Crossing the top Roekfleli nnd TPnramaru were most prominent, .with All Talk. Escaped and Bedford next. Hinesmaru was first into the straight, and at tins stage Alteration commenced to put Iα his run. while Hyllus also moved up. In 1 zreat finish home Alteration came- through n'oply and won by half a length free Meltchikoff. which also finished well. All Tslk was tb'rd. HvllUS fourth. Housewife and Roekfleld tn<*ethnr next, with Bedford, Mineamaru and Tinopai in that order, Fn'iriquette being last. Alteration was favourite. Time, 1.43 1-5. After one breik-away they were let go. Arlingtou showing the way t o the' first lence. Waimai was first over the obstacle, but was steadied, Arlingtou agaia leading at the water jump. Wahnai, however, again went to the lead, and piloted Arlington, Master Lupin, Bore, Tenacious, and Troublesome in the order along, the back, the field being in close company. Tae first fence on top of the hill brought Bore to grief, and Waimai was in the van as they came down the incline. At the double he was out in front from Master Lupin, Tenacious, and Troublesome, Arlingtoa losing hie rider. Setting out for the run along the back the last time. Troublesome Tan up to Waimai, but the latter sooa shook him off, only to be joined by Master Lupin, and the pair ran in close eompanj up the hill, two lengths In front of Troublesome, with Tenacious several lengths away. ■VVaimai came down the hill slightly ie front of Master Lupin, with Troublesome coming fast, and the trio raced to the l«t hurdle practicj-.Uy together. The prospect* of a great finish were dimmed by WalnJfc falling at the last obstacle, and Troublesome ran in a comfortable winner from MUter Lnpm by three lengths.
