GRAFTON SHAKESPEARE CLUB
"THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ERNEST." The open reading of the Grafton Shakespeare Club was given before a ' fair audience at the Grafton Library last evening. An excellent choice was made by the committee in selecting I Wilde's " The Importance of Being i Ernest," for this year's premiere, as the I witty Irishman's . pungent satire • and brilliant epigram gave the talented cast ! a chance of displaying their ability. The level of the reading was excellent, j but ilrs. Forsyth as Lady Bracknell I carried off chief honours. Her renderI ing of "a big game hunter" of London i society was admirable. Mr. H. Hemus i had :i rather small part as Canon | Chasuble, but his every line told. MrW. H. Graham was in his element as i John Worthing, but Mr. Ivealy was not !so happily cast as Moncrieff. Misses I Martin and Manning played .effectively, ! while a new reader. Miss Wilcox, made a decided success as Cecily Cargew. Mr. Perm and Miss Chalmers filled subsidiary I parts with success.
