RAILWAY ENGINEERS.
MR. E. E. GH/LON PROMOTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Mr. Ernest E. Gillon, who for the past four years has been locomotive engineer in the chief mechanical engineer's office of the Railway Department, has been appointed chief mechanical engineer in succession to Mr. H- H. Jackson, who recently retired from the service. Mr. Gillon, who is the eldest son of the late Mr. E. T. Gillon, for many years editor of the "Evening Post,*' was born in Dunedin, and joined the Railway Department in ISS4 as apprentice in the Hillside workshops. Since tien he has served the Railway Department in various capacities at Kaihu, Whangarei, Westport, Dunedin, Addington, and lastly in the head office in Wellington.
