FAT STOCK MARKET.
TO-DAY'S -WTESTFIBLCD SALES. PRICES FIRMER. Prkcs for fat stock at to-day's Westfield sales were firmer, especially for prime cattle. Calves were shortmarketed, and prices were high. BUCKLAND AND SONS. Messrs. Buekland and Sons had an average yarding of all lines, including several of heavy-weight cattle. Steers sold up to £22 17/0, and cows up to £10 5/. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE COMPANY. Beef -was penned in scarcely average numbers. Competition was keen, with prices better. Choice ox made £2 11/ per 1001b, other .£2 7/ to £2 10/; cow and heifer beef sold at £2 3/ to £2 8/. In some cases these prices were exceeded. Steers sold from £12 10/ to £22 2/6, cows and heifers £8 to £13 IJ/(>. Some of the averages were: —8 steers from Mr. B. Reid, Wairangi, £10 13/; 1G from F. Breganian, Waiuku, £17 15/0; 12 from the Waikato, £10 7/6; 4 cows and heifers from S. Bender, Waikato, a;l2 17/0; 8 small steers from J. Given, Waiuku. £14 18/9; 8 small steers from IT. Waring, Taupiri, £13 5/; 9 cows from Mr. W. H. Walker, Matamata, £10 5/0. Calves were penned in very small numbers, ahout half the usual number being penned. Extremely high prices prevailed. No heavy runners were penned, the oldest being a 16----months* heifer, which made £8 15/. Heavy venlers made from £6 to £0 10/, medium £3 15/ to £4 18/, light £2 12/ to £3 13/, lighter 18/ to £2 15/, best fresh-dropped, 7/ to 15/. Sheep penned in more than average numbers. For those of good quality competition was keen, last week's prices being fully realised. Best wethers, £1 10/0 to £2 2/, others, 34/ to £1-19/; best ewes, £1 14/ to £1 IS/9, others 29/ to £1 13/9. Inferior fatted sheep were neglected and dull of sale. DAf.GETV AND CO., LTD. There was a good yarding of beef, prime beef being about equal to last week's rates. Prime beef, £2 9/; second quality, £2 3/ to £2 7/; others, £2; cow beef, prime quality £2 2/, second quality 39/. A very fine bullock from Mr. Troutiheok's Galatea Station topped the market, realising £23 17/6.
