MARITIME STRIKE.
ATTEMPT TO RUSH LOYALISTS BEATEN OFF BY POLICE. AN OFFER FROM BRISBANE. |(Received 11.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The Melbourne strikers attempted to rush the wharf where loyalists were unloading a steamer, but were easily defeated by a strong body of police. Tiie New South Wales Federation has received advices from the -Brisbane branch that the men in Brisbane aro prepared to work inter-State cargo from oversea ships provided such cargo be loaded entirely by watersidera' labour. It is not likely that the owners will agree to this, as it would mean abandonment of preference to tho loyalists who are at present loading oversea steamers. There are fourteen Newcastle collieries idle.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
