■ I AGREEMENTS DURING WAR. FULFILMENT DEMANDED. AN OFFER FROM CHINA. (Received 9.45 a.m. ) LONDON, May 2. The "Daily News" Paris correspondent loints out that the Japanese deadlock at xdau-chuu has been aggravated by four iccret European agreements. In 1917 taly and Russia agreed without conlitions that Japnn should succeed to al] Germany's Chinese rights. France agreed subject to certain action against German subjects' property, while Britain signed ifter stipulating that she should have similar rights to German holdings in the south Pacific. These agreements scriouslv landicap settlement. China offers to defray the expenses of die Japanese campaign provided the Shantung riijhts arc unconditionally returned to her, but Japan firmly detnands that the secret treaties be fulfilled.—(A. aud N.Z.
