AUCKLAND GOLF CLUB.
ANNUAL REPORT.
The annual report of the Anckland Golf Club states that for the flnst time since 1914 the club's membership shows a slight Increase. This and the continued . play throughout the summer might be taken as an Indication of a revival of interest lv the game. Deep regret is expressed at ' the death of Messrs. G. Hart, E. MacCormick, •D. Kirker, _. Moore-Jones, E. D. O'Rorke, and aleo at the death on active service or Messrs. J. C. 'Burns, C. R. Brown,' W. Gorrie. G. M. ___1, and _. _. Vickerman. In the opinion of the committee there should be some permanent m. uorial of those members of the club who gave their lives during the war, und suggestions are invited as to the form the memorial should take. An enlarged photograph has been obtained of the late Mr. J. C. Bnrnß, a former champion and cuptain of the club, whose sportsuia—Ship and high personal qualities made Ills death a blow to every member. A complete set Is also being obtained of photographs of other memberswho lost their lives in the great war. The membership for the year Is as follows:— Playing members, 90; limited members, 23; country members, 13: non-playing member., 41; absentee members, 9; life members, 19; boy members, 12; members with N.a.E.F., 77; total, 256.
During the season several matches were played in aid of the patriotic funds, a sum of £23 being raised. In accordance with the wish of the members, the committee proceeded with a programme of matches during the season, and have decided to hold the annual Easter tournament. It will be noted, the report states, that the expenditure still exceeds the revenue. It should ibe observed, however, that a good deal has been done in the way of draining and clearing the links, which, might not unreasonably have been charged to capital account. In the coming year the revenue will be more normal with tbe return of members from the front. The committee has therefore thought it desirable to proceed with the permanent work on the course, but It has been delayed by the epidemic and lack of labour. It is now proposed to set up a small committee, with power to consult members of the club and others, to finally decide ou the laying out of the new holes, made necessary by the sale to King's College of part of the club's property.
