RAILWAYMEN'S WAGES.
f 'A COMPROMISE REFUSED. | -TRANSPORT TRIPLICE TO Sis CONFER. ____.' - |_ LONDON, March 16. -The conference of railwaymen carried B resolution refusing to compromise on the national programme. The conference instructed the executive of the National Federation to inform the Government to that effect in the strongest. terms. It is understood that the companies have offered to make the war increases permanent. The executive of the national union jrill consider the situation on March 20, while the triple alliance of railwaymen, miners and transport workers will confer on March 21. Mr. J. H. Thomas, M.P., says the position is serious. The Agricultural Wages Board has failed to settle the dispute occasioned by the demand of the Agricultural Labourers' Union for an increase in wages of 20/ a week. The farmers offered 5/. [The officials of the union assert that the unrest is grave. They demand an in--1 uiry similar to that conducted by the Coal Commission. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
